I fully expected that I would be much more eloquent returning from Nepal than I was when I returned from Ethiopia. Not so much. It is perfectly natural for people to be interested in my trip - the dialogue always goes: "How was your trip? It must have been so exciting!" To which I always reply, with much enthusiasm, "It was awesome!" and then find a way to get away as quickly as possible. It's not that I don't want to share, really. These trips are just so packed with experiences that I can hardly put into words what I have seen.
I am a serial journaler - I may actually have a diagnosable condition. Here at home, I journal almost every day. Some days, I can write 6-8 pages about basically nothing. Why is it that on these amazing trips I find myself with nothing to say at the end of the day? I think that it may be partially to do with the fact that we are exhausted by the time we get to bed. In combination with the jet lag and cultural overload, trying to relive the entire day becomes too overwhelming.
It took me six months to put together a letter to send out to all of you with a recap of my trip to Ethiopia. Even at that, there were so many experiences that I couldn't include and so many feelings and stories that I wasn't able to share or develop. So, I am going to attempt to blog about Nepal. My hope is that I can process and correspond at the same time. We'll see how it goes!
