I had so many wonderful experiences and so many amazing days but, if I had to choose, the one that touched me the most would be the day we spent with the girls from the House of Hope. It sounds frivolous and silly on the surface but the relationships that we formed that day were incredible.
The House of Hope is an organization that takes in women and girls who have been rescued from prostitution in Southern Nepal and India by another group called Project Rescue. This is one of those horrible things occurring in our world that many people know little or nothing about. There is a documentary film about these girls called The Day My God Died. There is an amazing thing that happens when women spend time together as sisters. It's hard to explain - brushing hair, putting on nail polish or makeup, cooking together - the bonds are almost instantaneous. At first, my heart was breaking for this girl as I brushed her hair; I am sure that I can't begin to imagine what she has been through. After a few minutes though, we were laughing and having so much fun. The simple act of touching her this way has broken down barriers and after her hair is cut she hugs me with tears in her eyes.

We spent the entire day with these women and girls. The day started with a devotion time and singing, then they showed us where they work. The House of Hope teaches them various skills and they create beautiful handbags, scarves and other items that can be sold. In the near future, they plan to make these items available on the Project Rescue website for Internet purchasing. After a tour of the facility we had a few hours of haircutting, manicures and makeup.
