Tibetan Buddhist Temple

We also visited this Buddhist temple. There is quite a large community of Tibetans in Kathmandu. This temple had a very different feel from the Hindu temple. There were shops all around the temple selling all kinds of items. It had an almost festive atmosphere, with lots of color and beautiful details. It is a stark contrast to most of the rest of the city. Hinduism and Buddhism marry well in this culture; there is no apparent anomosity between them.

The temple is surrounded by prayer wheels. Each wheel has a prayer printed on it. It is believed that when you walk by and spin each wheel around the temple, hundreds of thousands of prayers are sent up.
Interestingly, this was the only time that I noticed any pro-Tibetan propaganda. Despite the proximity to Tibet, Nepal seems to be very pro-China. Probably not such a bad idea, given their close proximity to China, too.

Audrey, I love this blog. What a great idea. Then any time you think of something about your trip, you can write about it and never forget it. What an amazing experience it must have been to be in such a different place than what we are used to.
